Update 5/27

Sorry about another update so soon.

Thanks for all the input about the LA Street Food fest.  If you have any other comments, please send them along.

Sunset lots have been booked. If you were not scheduled, you will have priority for the next few weeks.

Yesterday, the LAPD ticketed three trucks on a “red zone” violation [80.56e(4)]. They told the truckers that their trucks were too big for street parking spaces, and that restaurant owners had been complaining so they were going to start cracking down on trucks using parking restrictions.  One of the ticketing officers told a member that the Captain was receiving five complaint calls a day from restaurants in the area.  As soon as I know more I’ll let you know.

City and County regulatory issues are things we can fight.  State codes/regulations are much more difficult.  That is why we need someone in the State Assembly that will listen to us when we have problems.  Please do everything you can do help elect Betsy Butler.  She has been very supportive of the truck movement and I sincerely believe that we can help her get elected.   -Twitter suggestion:  “On June 8th, vote for friend of the food trucks, Betsy Butler for the 53rd Assembly District seat. http://tinyurl.com/bbutler”  OR “Elect Betsy Butler (53rd district- http://twitpic.com/1pvvj7), friend of the food trucks on June 8th!  http://tinyurl.com/bbutler”

Main St I had a meeting with the Heritage Museum on Main St yesterday.  They want to have ten trucks in their lot (where the Main St Farmer’s market is on Sunday) for dinner service on weeknights (m-th).  They’re selling the idea to the merchants with the promise of overflow traffic.  The Victorian located right across from the Heritage Museum will have their patio seating and bar open for our lot.  It will be a great weekly event.  The problem I have is with the cost.  The museum wants to charge $100 per truck for a 4-5 hour service.  We suggested that the Victorian (who stands to make a lot of money) should give a percentage of the bar since the trucks would be bringing all the people.  It’s a standard promoter type of deal.  The Museum is now talking it out with the Victorian owners.  Please let me know what you think in the comments.  The city of Santa Monica will let us use the lot for the Summer as a test case.

SANTA MONICA: If you don’t have a business license in Santa Monica, now is the time to get it.  With Main Street, The Santa Monica Food truck lot, there is a lot of business to be had.
